Parish News

SEPTEMBER 2013

For the whole month of September, the Parish of Saint Vincent Ferrer of Saysain, Bagac, Bataan had been busy in completing the construction of the new convent where the Carmelite friars assigned in the parish can be accommodated.  This came about as the old dilapidated convent at the back of the parish Church had been weakened due to termites that had practically destroyed the attic.  The roof is also rusting and there are plenty of holes where water would seep in when it rains.

The new convent started to materialize due to the support of the parishioners who donated and even volunteered their time and efforts in the construction of the said convent.  The parish priest, Fr. Modesto Malandac, is very thankful to all the donors locally and internationally who had been donating money and materials for the said construction.  Though much is still to be done inside the new convent, it is hoped by the friars that they can transfer in the new convent by the end of October 2013.

The catechists of Saint Vincent Ferrer Parish of Saysain organized the Catechetical Day celebration which began with a Eucharistic Celebration inside the parish Church.  The catechists and teachers of Saysain Elementary School joined hands on this day for a common celebration.  Rosaries were given to the pupils and they were taught how to pray the rosary with great devotion.  Celebrating the Mass for Catechetical Day is Fr. Sirenio Jaranilla.

In the afternoon of October 2, family groupings of the Basic Ecclesial Communities also known as KrisMa (Kristiyanong Magkakapitbahay) came in droves  for the launching of the Rosary Month and the blessing of the statue of Mary, Mother of KrisMa.  Almost all the family groupings of the parish were well represented with some zones coming with perfect attendance.  Fr. Modesto Malandac was the main celebrant and he highlighted the importance of Basic Ecclesial Communities as the living Church in the neighborhood and in the parish.  The smiling faces of the members were evident especially when Fr. Malandac gave remarks about calling the Holy Family (Jesus, Joseph and Mary) automatically in times of need, proof that the family is still the very foundation of the Church.  Fr.  Estong was also chosen as one of the two delegates representing the Diocese of Balanga to the BEC National Congress which was held in Cebu last September.  As of the moment, the friars assigned in Bagac are preparing the modules for the formation of the BEC family groupings.

Today we observed the feast of Saint Francis of Assisi with a Eucharistic celebration attended by parishioners and School Teachers.  It so happened that today also is Teachers' Day.  Fr. Toto Jaranilla urged the teachers of Saysain to emulate Saint Francis of Assisi as a model of a good teacher, and to put in practice his prayer:

"Lord make me an instrument of your peace,
Where there is hatred let me bring your love,
Where there is injury let me bring pardon,
Where there is doubt, faith...

O Master grant that we may never seek
To be consoled than to console
To be understood than to understand
To be loved as to love with all our soul."
